A tornado warning has been issued for Mecklenburg County

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of southern Virginia after a tornado warning in Orange County, North Carolina was allowed to expire Saturday afternoon.

A tornado warning was issued for the southern part of Mecklenburg County, Virginia at 4:26 p.m. until 5 p.m. today.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Clarksville, or 13 miles south of Chase City, at 4:25 p.m. today, the weather service said. The storm is moving east at 30 mph and is expected to produce damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding.

“Flying debris will pose a serious danger to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Roof, window, and vehicle damage is likely. tree damage is also likely,” the National Weather Service warning said.

Areas that will be impacted by the tornado warning include Richardson, Beechwood, Keats, John H Kerr Dam, Finchley, Eppes Fork, John H Kerr Reservoir, Baskerville, Palmer Springs and Skipwith.
